Daughter like me!

During my assignment in Chennai, there were many times when I had to be very curt and strict with the trainees there. In fact, I even complained against some of the top level managers for not attending the training sessions regularly. Every time we would meet our MD, he would take the opportunity to remark on me saying that I was the one to make them take the Oracle project seriously. I would go all red on face and feel very embarrassed about it. During one such day, the MD introduced me to his wife and said: “If at all I had a daughter, she would be like you!” This remark also made go red, because it was very unexpected and later when I pondered over the conversation, I felt great. That was one of the best compliments that I ever got. They are childless and he took care of me like a godfather all through my stay in Chennai.

I got a similar compliment from the Controller of Finance on the last day of my assignment. I went to his desk to wish him good bye and he remarked, “I have a daughter who is in her teens now. When she grows up, I would want her to be like you, all independent and hard-working; simple and straightforward!”
