Bump it no more

Last December my nephew told me about this app that can transfer photos between mobiles by just bumping the mobiles to each other... At once, I fell in love with the app. I downloaded the app and talked about it with all my friends and they began using the app as well.

We did not have to upload pics and send them through email or get frustrated with why the laptop was unable to connect to mobile phone using Bluetooth... The bump.it app made everything so simple and easy.

But just today I got an email saying this app will be discontinued from this February... I feel so sad... There are very few apps that I use and I am get very attached to them.

This is the second tool that google is retiring... The first one being igoogle..

I will miss you oh bump!!!

First Zipper :)

Phew! One more step conquered.
I have never felt comfortable with sewing zippers; but now I am!

Materials Used:

  1. Outer Fabric - 2 pieces - 10" X 5"
  2. Inner Fabric -  1 piece  - 10" X 9"
  3. Zipper - 11" length

Place the inner fabric right-side up, zipper right-side down & outer fabric right-side up.

Stitch the edge.

Take the other piece of outer fabric. Sandwich the other edge of zipper between the outer fabric and other edge of inner fabric.

Stitch the edge. Whenever the zipper pull comes in the way, gently unzip the zipper so that the zipper pull will be away from the part of the edge that is being stitched.

Now the fabric is attached to the zipper.

Place the long edges of the outer fabric together, with right sides facing each other. Stitch the edge.

Now consider one of the shorter side. Place the right sides together and stitch the edge.

Now stitch the other edge. Ensure that there is a small opening left to turn the purse right side out.

Now with the help of the opening, turn the purse right side out. Then close the opening with hem stitch. Push the lining into the pouch.

Now the pouch is ready for V's swimming goggles! :)

Jaya Jaya Vijayee Raghu Rama

Got a chance to watch a dance show called Jaya Jaya Vijayee Raghu Rama... It was Ramayana narrated through songs and dance...

We loved it! Glad we got a chance to watch it... Amazing sets...

Beautiful choreography... melodious voice...

They even put up a screen giving the english translation of the song that was being sung. We thoroughly enjoyed it... felt good even in those emotional moments...

Double Rainbow!

One of those rare sights... a double rainbow...

Praneeth and Nandini calling us at the same time to V and me on our cell phones...
Asking us to look out of our window... to enjoy the beautiful sight...

Thanks to the two of them... else we would have missed this nature's beauty...

Finding some treasures are... as simple as opening the window or looking into the sky...
We just need to keep our eyes open...
Probably nose too.. :)
To take in the smell of wet earth when the first rain drops fall onto the dry land...
How about keeping the ears open as well...
To listen the birds calling out to each other...
or to hear the splash of the waves at the beach...
Nature never stops to amaze me...

Less than Traditional...

My first visit to a Quilt festival happened in September... I was so excited... I did not know what to expect... But wanted to attend at least a couple of free classes/sessions there...

This festival happened in the Fairgrounds, Pleasanton. It was Quilt, Craft and Sewing festival... I enjoyed looking at all those fabulous quilts, bought a couple of yards of fabric and signed up for the raffle prize. :)

Got a chance to learn a new technique in quilting called "Less than Traditional". This was a quilting technique invented by a person named Charlie. Click here to know more.

As soon as I got back home, I rushed to try out this technique. The results are here... :)

My first Dresden

I colorful pillow cover for my pretty niece...

Used the dresden tool to make the petals of the flower...

Just the flower did not seem complete...

So added leaves and stem...

The grass at the bottom completes the scene...
(Used a strip of green fabric for the grass)

Ain't it pretty?!!

One yard of printed fabric and a couple of matching fat quarters... Result is a couple pillow covers...

A coordinated pair but not a duplicate...
